How To Become Confident
What is the absolute quickest, most effective way to:
become confident
conquer fear
conquer shyness?
The absolute quickest way is the ‘fake it to make it’ approach. If you lack confidence and are shy and you don’t wish to be, you have to just ACT confident! To become confident you have to pretend that it is merely a role you have been given to perfom. By putting on an act of confidence you are sub consciously sending calming signals to your brain that everything will be just fine. Unless there is truly imminent danger it is usually just your over active imagination that is causing the fluttering in your stomach, not any real basis for fear. So in reverse you can use that same imagination to help your cause!
Picture this!
Close your eyes (in a minute!) and imagine yourself as a Hollywood star or a swagger-jacking rock star sweeping confidently down the Red Carpet, surrounded by the hangers on and waving to the crowds! Slow your breathing right down and insert large, bright visuals in your head of you making a fabulous entrance and everybody absolutely loving you. You’re looking good huh?
If you are really doing it, imagining this should put a small silly smile on your face that you are not even aware is there. You should feel your shoulders drop and your body relax as it is a positive, pleasant visual.
If you are going to a function, you can then practise or rehearse this kind of confident entrance at home until it becomes very natural and smooth…until it basically becomes YOU! Stand in front of a mirror and practise the event or evening ahead of time. Remember Robert De Niro in ‘Taxi Driver?’
“You looking at me? You looking at me?…Well I don’t see anyone else here…”
That’s what YOU have to do! Have a conversation with yourself in confident, cool as ice character in the mirror. Put on the clothes you are going to wear and rehearse your role in the upcoming event like you are starring in a Broadway play the next day!
Rehearse one or two easy flowing opening sentences as you introduce yourself and then rehearse your smooth exit from a conversation as you move on. Also practise and visualize the desired, successful, smiling outcome of your meeting or date right there in your house well before the appointment. Practise! Practise! Practise! Then when you are tired of it…get up and Practise! some more!
Note To Self!
Remember that when you practice you get from it the effort that you put into it!
Please don’t worry about feeling foolish! I did it and it worked for me. I revised confidence as if I had an exam in it the next day and it is no longer something I need to rehearse or practise!
It became me.
I have addressed audiences of 4 in a room to 200 in a room to 70,000 and more in massive fields and arenas and not been phased, I have done the red carpets with my ‘celebrity face’ on and not been (too!) phased…you can too!
Stick around, (subscribe to be told about our updates, free products, or search through more posts in this category), because we’re going to be holding your hand to take you through some of the points raised. When I am done with you, you will be able to switch your confidence on and off like a light switch, or leave it on smouldering like electricity permanently!
